Shifts and roster

Shift and roster software, one week on one screen.

Set your shift timings once, give each person a weekly off and plan the week in a grid. Copy last week when nothing has changed, and allow a swap when two people ask.

How it works

Timings, days off and the week.

The app is called Shifts and Roster. It has four screens.

Part
What happens
Where in the app
Shift timings
Each shift has a name, a start, an end, a break in minutes and a "late after" in minutes. A night shift can end the next morning. One shift is the usual one.
Shifts
Weekly off
One day off each week, chosen for each person. It does not have to be Sunday.
Weekly offs
The week roster
A grid of people and days. You change a box, press Save roster, and every box you did not touch follows the usual shift and the weekly off.
This week
Swaps
Two people exchange a day. The request waits for a yes; when it is allowed, they take each other's shift for that one day.
Swap requests; also Approvals

The week

Plan only what is different.

Most weeks look like the week before. So the roster starts from the usual shift and each person's weekly off, and you change only the days that are different.

Copy last week brings the whole of the week before onto this one.
Week before and Week after move through the calendar.
A person on approved leave is marked on that day of the roster.
Days in a month whose salary is locked are shown but cannot change.

A straight answer

What it does, and what it does not.

What it does
Keeps as many shifts as you need, day or night.
Gives each person their own weekly off.
Shows a whole week for the whole team on one screen.
Copies a week forward and leaves locked days as they are.
Keeps a list of the swaps allowed earlier.
What it does not do
It does not plan the roster for you. You choose who works when.
It does not mark attendance. Who came is marked in Today.
It does not add a night shift allowance.
It does not take swap requests from a worker's phone today. You or a manager enter them.
It does not send the roster to staff by itself.
